Today we are talking about what God wants.
Oftentimes when we
hear this word “church” we have this image of a building with a cross on it. But
here's a reality check, that's not the church. That's just the building with
the cross on it. The real church is the people who have said “Yes!” to Jesus.
The real church is you.
Look at Matthew
28:19-20
“Therefore
go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to
obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to
the very end of the age.”
Here Jesus is
speaking to His disciples after His resurrection. He is essentially telling
them that everything I've taught you; I now need you to go and teach to others.
I need you to make disciples. Disciples is simply defined as someone who
follows Jesus.
Followers of
Jesus now share with others the good
news about the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. They share the news
that Jesus died for their sins so they can receive this free gift of salvation
through faith.
If you're like me,
one of the best days in your life was the day you said “Yes!” to Jesus.
The only other
day that was better than that to me was the day God used me to help someone else
say “Yes!” to Jesus.
Today I want
to challenge you to not only continue your journey on becoming a disciple but to
also join the journey of making a disciple: helping others discover and say “Yes!”
to Jesus.
You can do this
by loving people for who they are and where they are in life and simply sharing
your faith. Share with them the great things that God is doing in your life.
Now depending on
where you are in your faith journey this may be a little intimidating.
Here is some
encouragement: Jesus says in the last part of today’s verse “I am with you
always even to the end of the age.” As you seek to not only become a better disciple
but also make a disciple remember this, Jesus is with you. It's your job to
love, it's his job to save.
Let's go and be
the church and make disciples!
